A woman died in a crash on Ireland’s N2 highway on Dec. 18, 2025, after her car hit a lorry; the driver was arrested.

A 37-year-old mother of two, Emma Mackarel, died in a road crash on the N2 near Castleblayney, County Monaghan, on Thursday morning, December 18, 2025. Her car collided with a heavy goods vehicle, and she was pronounced dead at the scene. The lorry driver, a man in his 50s, was arrested and remains in custody. A funeral is scheduled for Sunday, December 21, at Stonebridge Presbyterian Church in Clones. Gardaí are seeking witnesses and video footage from the area between 7:30 a.m. and 8:15 a.m. on the day of the crash. The incident marked the third road fatality in Ireland within a 12-hour period.
