Ukrainian artist turns Kyiv basement into war artifact museum, preserving memories and supporting troops.
Ukrainian street artist Maxim Kilderov has turned a Kyiv basement into an unofficial museum of war, collecting battlefield artifacts from Russia’s 2022 invasion, including weapons, uniforms, personal items like shrapnel-damaged phones, and military patches.
The space, built through military contacts and recovery efforts amid ongoing attacks, preserves the human toll of war and serves as a memorial to Ukraine’s resistance.
Kilderov, who lived under Russian occupation for 55 days, uses the site to evoke emotion and warn against fading unity, with proceeds supporting Ukrainian forces.
He plans to open it permanently, highlighting both resilience and the fragility of wartime solidarity.
