Security guards pushed an Indigenous man in a wheelchair outside a Saskatchewan hospital, sparking outrage and calls for systemic reform.
Three security guards employed by Garda World have been banned from Saskatchewan Health Authority facilities after a video showed them pushing an Indigenous man in a wheelchair outside Prince Albert’s Victoria Hospital on December 11, 2025.
The man, a First Nations individual, was reportedly removed from the emergency room for disruptive behavior and later found lying in snow amid subzero temperatures.
Police responded, found him intoxicated, and he was medically assessed.
The SHA condemned the guards’ actions, acknowledged the incident damaged trust among Indigenous patients, and pledged to improve care by creating an Indigenous patient liaison role in the emergency department and enhancing cultural training for contractors.
The guards are suspended pending investigation, and the Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations and Prince Albert Grand Council called for systemic reforms.
