Antonio Rafaila, a Romanian national, was sentenced to nine months in federal prison for his role in a card skimming scheme affecting stores in multiple Mississippi counties.
He was convicted of illegally possessing and trafficking equipment used to create skimmer devices, which steal credit card data.
The case, prosecuted by the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office with support from federal and local agencies, resulted in $1,911 in restitution and one year of supervised release.
Rafaila, who entered the U.S. illegally, will be deported after his prison term.
This marks the conclusion of the case, which targeted a cyber-enabled financial crime ring.
