Naim Kurniawan, son of the late Sabah political leader Bung Moktar Radin, has been named Barisan Nasional’s candidate for the Kinabatangan parliamentary by-election scheduled for January 24, 2025.
The announcement was confirmed by Umno’s Ahmad Maslan and BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who cited positive voter sentiment and Bung Moktar’s prior suggestion that his son succeed him.
The by-election follows Bung Moktar’s death on December 5, leaving the Kinabatangan seat vacant.
Naim, who also won the Lamag state seat in the November 29 election, expressed gratitude for the nomination, noting the emotional weight of stepping into his father’s political legacy.
Nomination day is January 10, with early voting set for January 20.
