An eight-month-old Eastern Grey kangaroo joey named Rooster has recovered after being expelled from his mother’s pouch, a condition often fatal without human help.
Found near the Australian Reptile Park on the Central Coast, Rooster was critically ill but is now thriving under the care of operations manager Brandon Gifford, who feeds him every five hours and brings him home nightly.
Described as resilient and affectionate, Rooster follows Gifford around, enjoys cuddles, and returns to his surrogate pouch.
The park calls his survival a “Christmas miracle,” and once strong enough, Rooster will join the park’s kangaroo mob as one of few male members.
