Irish student nurse Mireille Mumpuni avoided jail for helping a Congolese man enter Ireland illegally with a fake ID, citing personal ties, and was given a suspended sentence.
A 44-year-old Irish citizen and student nurse, Mireille Mumpuni, avoided jail after pleading guilty to helping a Congolese man enter Ireland illegally in May 2024 using a fake Spanish ID.
She admitted assisting him at Dublin Airport, citing personal ties to his deceased father, and was sentenced to a two-month jail term suspended for one year, with a criminal record but no fine.
Authorities found the man’s real Congolese passport and visa on her phone.
The case, handled in District Court, involved no financial gain, and Judge Treasa Kelly noted the seriousness of the offense but considered Mumpuni’s background, her nursing studies during a healthcare shortage, and her prior conviction in 2014.
The man had applied for asylum.
