India and Oman launch CEPA with mutual Halal certification, boosting Indian exports.
India is advancing efforts to export formally Halal-certified goods, with Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal highlighting the new India-Oman Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) as a key step.
The CEPA, signed during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Oman, includes mutual recognition of Halal certifications and acceptance of India’s National Programme for Organic Production, allowing Indian organic products certified by the Export Inspection Council to enter Oman without additional testing.
The agreement grants India 100% duty-free access to 98% of Oman’s tariff lines and 99% of its trade value, with immediate implementation of concessions.
It also protects agricultural exports and supports India’s broader strategy to engage all 55 countries requiring Halal certification, promoting standardized, official certification to replace informal practices and improve market access.
