Idaho Rep. Wendy Horman to resign Jan. 5, 2026, to lead federal child care office under Trump.
Idaho State Representative Wendy Horman, a Republican from Idaho Falls and co-chair of the powerful Joint Finance-Appropriations Committee, will resign on January 5, 2026, to become Director of the Office of Child Care at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services under the Trump administration.
She will succeed fellow Idahoan Alex Adams, now Assistant Secretary for the Administration for Children and Families.
Horman, who has served seven terms and played a central role in shaping Idaho’s budget and education funding, cited a commitment to children’s well-being and fiscal responsibility.
Her departure comes as Idaho faces significant budget shortfalls, with projected deficits of $40 million for 2026 and up to $555 million for 2027.
The Idaho House will appoint a successor to fill her seat and co-chair position.
