Enbridge Gas gave Sarnia-area fire services $5,000 and 312 alarms to boost safety ahead of 2026 Ontario carbon monoxide rules.
Enbridge Gas has awarded grants and safety equipment to Sarnia-area fire services, including a $5,000 grant to Point Edward Fire and Rescue for training materials and 312 smoke and carbon monoxide alarms for Sarnia Fire Rescue.
The alarms, part of a 17-year campaign, will be distributed to vulnerable residents, especially in rental units, ahead of new Ontario rules requiring carbon monoxide detectors in homes with fuel-burning appliances starting January 2026.
Fire officials stress the importance of detection, noting about 200 carbon monoxide incidents annually, calling the gas a deadly “silent killer.”
