The offender, then 14, pleaded guilty to manslaughter after stabbing Uati 'Pele' Faletolu, a 17-year-old ride attendant, in the heart during a chance encounter.
The court acknowledged the offender’s history of trauma, including domestic violence and multiple stab wounds, leading to a PTSD diagnosis, and noted the knife served as a psychological coping mechanism.
However, aggravating factors included prior violent offenses, two good behaviour bonds, ongoing gang activity during remand, and a lack of remorse.
The sentence is back-dated to his July 15, 2022 arrest, with eligibility for parole on October 14, 2026.
