Henderson-based Echo Marine Group has won a $66 million contract to build five electric ferries for Western Australia’s Swan River expansion, marking the state’s first electric ferry fleet.
Each ferry will carry 140 passengers, operate at up to 25 knots, and include bike storage, toilets, and low wake design.
Construction begins soon, with service launching before end of 2027.
The project includes new terminals at Applecross and Matilda Bay as part of a $107 million Metronet expansion, aiming to improve public transit in Perth.
The development follows a separate $135 million contract extension for Austal Ships to build two more patrol boats, boosting local shipbuilding and maritime infrastructure.
