UK approves RWE’s 79-turbine offshore wind farm off Suffolk, capable of powering 1 million homes by 2030.
The UK government has approved RWE’s Five Estuaries offshore wind farm, a 79-turbine project 23 miles off Suffolk, capable of powering up to one million homes.
Expected to connect to the National Grid by October 2030, it could create up to 595 construction and 225 permanent jobs.
The approval followed an extended review to address environmental concerns.
RWE also has three other offshore wind projects in Norfolk with 1.4GW each, all secured with permits and grid connections.
The government has now consented to projects able to power nine million homes, including 5GW of offshore wind and 4.5GW of solar, supporting its goal of 40,000 new clean energy jobs in East Anglia by 2030.
