A Spokane man was sentenced to 16 months in prison for domestic violence, including firing a gun near his girlfriend’s head and tampering with a witness.
Jaquin E. Cox, 29, of Spokane, was sentenced to 16 months in prison after a jury convicted him in November of multiple charges tied to a November 2024 domestic violence incident.
He was found guilty of unlawful imprisonment with domestic violence, discharging a firearm during a domestic violence act, tampering with a witness, and violating a court order.
Court records and trial testimony revealed Cox restrained his girlfriend during a car ride, grabbed her by the neck, and fired a gun near her head at a parking garage.
The victim escaped but was recaptured by Cox before police arrived after hearing the gunshot.
Prosecutors said Cox’s family attempted to pressure the victim to withdraw her statement, leading to the tampering charge.
Judge Julie McKay imposed the maximum sentence allowed under Washington state law, stating she wished she could have sentenced him more severely.
