A Nigerian court lets ex-minister Chris Ngige stay free on bail amid N2.2B fraud charges, with strict conditions, as trial nears in January 2026.
A Nigerian court has upheld the EFCC’s administrative bail for former Labour Minister Chris Ngige, allowing him to remain free while facing eight counts of alleged N2.2 billion fraud and corruption during his 2015–2023 tenure. Justice Mariam Hassan imposed strict conditions: Ngige must provide a surety who is a federal government director with landed property in the FCT, and both must deposit property documents and travel documents with the court. The judge ruled the charges are bailable and Ngige remains innocent until proven guilty. The case, linked to NSITF contracts and gifts from contractors, is set for trial in January 2026.
