Ireland expands farm building rights for cattle housing and slurry storage without permits, effective Dec. 18, 2025.
Ireland has introduced new planning exemptions effective December 18, 2025, allowing farmers to expand cattle housing and build larger slurry storage without seeking permission.
Housing limits increase from 200 to 300 square meters per structure and total farm housing from 300 to 450 square meters.
Farmers can now install stand-alone slurry tanks up to 1,000 cubic meters, with a farm-wide cap of 1,500 cubic meters.
The changes aim to reduce administrative delays, lower costs, and support environmental compliance, animal welfare, and water quality, while maintaining building and environmental standards.
