A father sued Hamleys after a falling Perspex panel injured him during a Christmas shopping trip.

Jonathan Joseph, a 43-year-old father of four, is suing Hamleys, the London toy store, after being seriously injured in November 2024 when a 4-foot, two-inch-thick sheet of Perspex fell two storeys onto him during a family Christmas shopping trip. He shielded his daughter and a pram on the escalator, taking the full impact, which caused severe leg injuries, forced him to stop working, and disrupted his ability to care for his elderly relative and play football. The incident, which he called a "Christmas miracle" due to the lack of fatalities, left his children unable to receive chosen gifts. He claims the store failed to maintain safe conditions, pursuing legal action over what he says was a preventable accident. Hamleys has not responded publicly.
