Excavation at Watchtower 117 in Beijing’s Jiankou Great Wall section has uncovered Ming Dynasty artifacts, a 1573 stele, and structural details revealing advanced engineering and soldier life.
Over 300 items, including weapons, tools, and food remains, were found, along with a heated kang bed and inscribed bricks indicating weight-based brick production.
The project, part of a five-phase effort approved by heritage authorities, sheds light on construction methods and daily life in Ming garrisons, aiding future conservation of this rugged, unrestored section.
