Chicago boosts transit security with more officers and K-9s after a fiery attack on a Blue Line train.
Starting Friday, the Chicago Transit Authority and Chicago Police Department are increasing security on buses and trains with more officers and K-9 units, raising the average daily presence from 77 to 120 officers, many working on their days off.
The surge, part of a broader safety effort following a November incident in which a woman was set on fire on a Blue Line train, aims to boost rider confidence and respond to federal safety concerns.
The initiative, funded by the CTA’s budget, includes additional private K-9 units and will be guided by crime data, with further adjustments expected based on feedback.
