A Cessna C550 business jet crashed shortly after takeoff from Statesville Regional Airport in North Carolina on December 18, 2025, killing all seven people aboard, including former NASCAR driver Greg Biffle, his family, and three others.
The plane, which had departed around 10:15 a.m. and was en route to Florida, made a sudden left turn without gaining altitude before crashing in rainy, cloudy conditions.
The National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration are investigating the cause, with preliminary data indicating the aircraft traveled about five miles before the turn.

Biffle, a 55-year-old racing legend with over 50 career wins, was recognized for humanitarian efforts, including post-Hurricane Helene relief missions.
The incident is one of 1,331 U.S. crashes investigated by the NTSB in 2025.
