Wales approves £116M relief for businesses facing rate hikes starting April 2026.
The Welsh Senedd has unanimously approved a £116 million transitional relief scheme to ease steep non-domestic rate increases for businesses starting in April 2026.
The plan phases in relief over two years, covering 67% of the rise in the first year and 34% in the second, supporting about 25,000 ratepayers.
It complements existing annual reliefs worth £250 million, with two-thirds of properties expected to pay no bill or receive support.
Finance Secretary Mark Drakeford highlighted fairness in the tax system, while Conservative lawmakers welcomed the measure but urged further reform, including eliminating business rates for small firms, citing severe impacts on sectors like hospitality and leisure.
