A Texas widow, Stephany Gauffeny, received a U.S.
Citizenship and Immigration Services approval letter for her late husband, Miguel Garcia, months after he was killed in a sniper attack at the Dallas ICE facility in September 2025.
Garcia, a 31-year-old Mexican national detained on a DWI charge, had been awaiting legal status for two years.
The letter, dated December 9, approved his application for a visa or green card—something he would never see.
Gauffeny, who gave birth to their fifth child after his death, said the news brought sorrow amid holiday mourning.
She questioned the delay in receiving the approval and has not received a response from USCIS, which NBC DFW has contacted for comment.
