Supreme Court allows Delhi-NCR to restrict old polluting vehicles, mandates toll changes and CBI update in doctor's case.
The Supreme Court has allowed Delhi-NCR authorities to enforce restrictions on vehicles below BS-IV emission standards, reversing an earlier ban on actions against older vehicles. The ruling permits targeting diesel vehicles over 10 years old and petrol vehicles over 15 years old that do not meet current norms, aiming to reduce pollution amid deteriorating air quality. Only vehicles with BS-IV or newer standards are exempt. The court also directed the MCD and NHAI to consider temporary toll plaza closures to ease congestion and ordered the CBI to share the investigation status with the family of a Kolkata trainee doctor in a rape and murder case, transferring the matter to the Calcutta High Court for oversight.
