A man was convicted of raping his cousin decades ago, and the victim says the verdict brings long-overdue justice.
A woman who was raped as a teenager by her cousin, Karl Fish, said the guilty verdict in her case proves justice is possible even decades later.
Fish, 53, was convicted in October of two counts of rape and two counts of indecent assault, allegedly committed between 1988 and 1990 when the victim was 14 or 15 and Fish was 16 or 17.
At sentencing, Justice Karen O’Connor reduced the original 10-year sentence to four years, citing Fish’s age at the time and the lengthy delay in prosecution.
The victim spoke of the emotional toll of reliving the trauma and expressed hope her testimony would encourage other survivors to come forward.
The court acknowledged the lasting harm to the victim and her family.
Fish’s defense highlighted his youth, past struggles with addiction, cooperation with authorities, and his later law-abiding life.
