Ayad Mansoor Sakat, a 54-year-old Michigan man and former Iraqi interpreter who served U.S. forces from 2003 to 2007, was killed on December 13, 2025, in a suicide bombing by ISIS near Palmyra, Syria, while assisting U.S. military personnel.
He was among three killed in the attack, including two Iowa National Guard soldiers.
Sakat, who relocated to the U.S. via a Special Immigrant Visa, was honored by officials and family for his service and sacrifice.
A dignified transfer ceremony was held at Dover Air Force Base.
