Indonesia buys Mecca hotel and land for Hajj Village, near Grand Mosque, to boost pilgrim stays.
Indonesia has acquired a 1,461-room hotel in Mecca and secured adjacent land for a Hajj Village project, aiming to improve accommodations for its pilgrims.
The purchase, part of a larger initiative backed by President Prabowo Subianto and Investment Minister Rosan Roeslani, follows Saudi Arabia’s 2025 rule change allowing foreign land ownership.
The site, plot six, was selected from 90 bidders and is near the Grand Mosque, with a planned tunnel reducing travel time.
The project, managed by state-owned Danantara, could eventually house over 23,000 pilgrims and start construction in January 2026.
