Evelyn Harris, a Grammy-nominated singer, composer, and activist, died at 75.
Known for her powerful voice and dedication to social justice, she spent 18 years with Sweet Honey in the Rock, co-producing nine albums and earning a Grammy nomination for her anti-apartheid composition “Emergency.” A longtime resident of Easthampton, she directed the Ujima Singers, taught at the Northampton Community Music Center, and performed with StompBoxTrio and other groups.
