Ghana approved a toll road project to upgrade the Accra–Kumasi highway, ensuring free access remains.
Ghana’s Parliament has approved a concession agreement for the construction of a new six-lane Accra–Kumasi Expressway, managed by the Ministry of Roads and Highways and developed by Accra–Kumasi Expressway Limited.
The project, funded by the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund, aims to improve safety and reduce travel time between the capital and second-largest city by providing a modern alternative to the deteriorating existing highway.
The new expressway will not replace the current road, ensuring continued free access.
Tolling is permitted under regional guidelines as long as a free alternative remains available.
Officials say the project will enhance national connectivity and economic efficiency.
