William Stuart, with four prior DUIs, pleaded not guilty to killing a woman and injuring her husband in a high-speed, drunk-driving crash in Montana.
William Bart Stuart, 52, of Helena, appeared in Montana district court entering a not guilty plea to felony vehicular homicide while under the influence, criminal endangerment, and fleeing a peace officer after a November crash in East Helena killed Terry Lamping, 69, and critically injured her husband, Phil Lamping, 76. Court documents indicate Stuart, who had four prior DUI convictions, allegedly consumed 14 to 15 drinks before speeding at up to 115 mph following a traffic stop, crashing into the Lamping home. He is out on a $500,000 bond. A law firm representing the family says Stuart was seen drinking in bars after the crash and is seeking information. The family faces financial hardship from medical and funeral costs and has launched a GoFundMe. A trial is set for May 18, 2026.
