UAE shifts school entry cut-off to Dec. 31 for 2026–2027, aligning with child development and fairness.
The UAE is changing its school admission cut-off date from August 31 to December 31 for schools starting in August or September, effective the 2026–2027 academic year. The update applies only to new admissions and aims to align entry with child development, improve fairness, and support smoother curriculum transitions. Children must be three by December 31 for Pre-Kindergarten, four for KG1, five for KG2, and six for Grade 1. Data from over 39,000 students showed no academic disadvantage to early entry, with some children showing stronger outcomes. Schools on April calendars will keep the March 31 cut-off. The change follows a review by education authorities and stakeholders, based on international standards and research.
