Supreme Court urges joint security and media reforms after shoe-throwing at former CJI, rejecting contempt charges.
The Supreme Court has directed the Union Government and the Supreme Court Bar Association to jointly propose preventive measures and media guidelines following an attempted shoe-throwing at former Chief Justice B.R.

The court, led by Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi, declined criminal contempt proceedings against advocate Rakesh Kishore, citing the CJI’s pardon and the need for systemic reform.
It emphasized collaboration over punishment, calling for enhanced security, behavior protocols, and responsible media coverage to prevent future incidents.
The move follows widespread condemnation, including from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and aims to establish pan-India safeguards to protect judicial dignity.
