The Rajasthan government has established a five-member committee to evaluate environmental and groundwater risks from a proposed ethanol factory in Hanumangarh district, amid rising local opposition and plans for a farmers' protest.
Chaired by the Bikaner Divisional Commissioner, the panel includes officials from environment, forests, pollution control, and groundwater departments.
The Hanumangarh administration has imposed restrictions under Section 144, banning gatherings, weapons, and social media incitement, while limiting tractor movements and protecting religious sites ahead of the protest.
The committee will report to the state’s top environment official.
