IndiGo carried more international passengers than Air India and Air India Express combined, following Air India’s post-crash flight cuts.
In the July-September 2025 quarter, IndiGo carried more international passengers than Air India and Air India Express combined, with 41.36 lakh travelers, according to DGCA data. This shift followed a 15% reduction in Air India’s flights after the June 12 crash of AI171, which killed 260 people and led to a decline in passenger confidence, especially on Boeing 787s. Air India’s reduced capacity allowed IndiGo to expand on key routes. Despite a recent domestic flight disruption in December, IndiGo maintained a low 2.4% cancellation rate on international flights. The aviation ministry is considering a 10% reduction in IndiGo’s operations, but the scope remains unclear.
