He also won the Ballon d’Or earlier in 2025. The award, announced in Doha on December 16, 2025, was decided by votes from coaches, captains, journalists, and fans. Spain’s Aitana Bonmati won women’s player of the year for the third straight year, recognized for her leadership in Barcelona’s treble and Spain’s Euro 2025 final run. Sarina Wiegman earned women’s coach of the year for leading England to a second consecutive European Championship final. Luis Enrique was named men’s coach of the year, while Gianluigi Donnarumma and Hannah Hampton won goalkeeper awards. Santiago Montiel and Lizbeth Ovalle took the Puskas and Marta Awards, respectively.
