A new fatality review committee led by Columbiana County Health Commissioner Dr. Wesley Vins will examine drug overdose and suicide deaths to identify patterns and reduce future incidents.
Authorized under state law, the committee includes public health, law enforcement, medical, and coroner representatives, with Vins as chair and Lori Colian managing operations.
It will analyze data from 128 recent deaths, including 26 overdoses and 10 suicides, as part of a broader public health initiative.
The committee aims to begin operations in early 2026.
In other actions, county commissioners approved a fiber optic permit, enacted frost laws in Butler Township, authorized land for a sewer project, and approved contracts for senior services totaling over $140,000.
County offices will close from December 24 to 26, with no commissioners’ meeting scheduled the week of December 22.
