A Melbourne oyster bar closed after a director dispute, with co-founders leaving over a financial rift.
The Walrus, a St Kilda oyster and wine bar that opened in December 2023, closed abruptly in late December 2025 due to a dispute between its directors.
Co-founders Martin Webster and Amy McGouldrick left with all staff to focus on a new venue, citing a financial rift with third director Micheal Weal, who blocked credit cards and withdrew $100,000 from the business account.
Weal, a silent investor who contributed $70,000, claims funds were misused for another bar and rejected a buyout offer.
The closure left the bar temporarily shuttered with fixtures removed, and while Weal is consulting insolvency experts about reopening, no plans are in place.
Webster and McGouldrick are working to reopen their Mornington Peninsula venue, Tonc, which burned down earlier in the year.
