A mass grave was found in Syria’s Idlib during renovations at a former security building, adding to over 60 other such sites linked to the country’s conflict.
A mass grave containing human remains was discovered during renovation work at a former State Security building in southern Idlib, Syria, according to state media. The site, previously a government detention center, fell to opposition forces in 2019. Authorities have sealed the area pending investigation, but no details on the number of bodies or identities have been released. This find adds to at least 66 mass graves identified across Syria since the ouster of President Bashar Assad in late 2024 by a coalition led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, including a previous discovery near Damascus with at least 100,000 bodies. The findings highlight the ongoing efforts to uncover the fate of over 170,000 people reported missing during the conflict.
