Maryland Senator Dalya Attar seeks to dismiss extortion charges, citing illegal evidence and lack of proof.
Maryland State Senator Dalya Attar has filed a motion to dismiss federal extortion and conspiracy charges, alleging the former campaign consultant had harassed her and her associates, and that evidence against her was obtained illegally.
The motion, filed December 15, 2025, argues the government lacks proof of a transferable property interest, a key element for federal extortion, and claims recordings were gathered unlawfully.
Attar, her brother Joseph Attar, and Baltimore police officer Kalman Finkelstein are accused of secretly recording the consultant in 2020 and threatening to release the footage.
All three pleaded not guilty.
The motion does not challenge conspiracy, wiretapping, or Travel Act charges.
A decision is pending before a January 19 deadline.
