Louisiana probes corruption in school construction, focusing on forged quotes and possible official misconduct.
The Louisiana Attorney General’s office has launched a corruption investigation into the Lafayette Parish School System, expanding a probe into forged contractor quotes for school construction projects.
The investigation follows the Lafayette Police Department’s closure of its probe, which led to the August arrest of former construction director Robert Gautreaux on felony charges related to false public records.
Though Gautreaux has not been formally charged and remains employed under a non-disclosure agreement, the case was referred to the 15th Judicial District Attorney’s Office on December 3.
The AG’s office is now examining potential involvement by higher-level officials and whether any school personnel benefited financially from vendor relationships, as over two dozen contractors claim they never submitted quotes for projects listed on official documents.
