India to launch unified natural gas pricing Jan 1, 2026, cutting costs and standardizing rates nationwide.
The Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) will implement a unified natural gas tariff system effective January 1, 2026, reducing tariff zones from three to two—up to 300 km and beyond.
All CNG and piped natural gas consumers nationwide will pay the lower Zone-1 rate of Rs 54.00/MMBTU, regardless of location, under the "One Nation, One Grid, One Tariff" initiative.
The reform aims to cut transportation costs by about Rs 1,000 crore annually, lower CNG prices by Rs 1.25–2.50 per kg, and reduce PNG prices by Rs 0.90–1.80 per SCM, supporting India’s shift to cleaner energy and reducing regional fuel cost disparities.
