flag Goa SP ordered police to do squats after a checkpoint dispute, sparking criticism and disciplinary review.

In December 2025, North Goa SP Harischandra Madkaikar drew criticism for allegedly ordering police and Indian Reserve Battalion personnel to do squats after a routine checkpoint in Santa Cruz. Officers stopped a vehicle with a BR registration plate, believed to belong to an IAS officer involved in a central government project. When the driver, showing an IAS ID, left, returned, dumped items from the trunk on the road, and challenged the officers to search them, a complaint was filed. Madkaikar then reportedly made personnel perform squats. Goa DGP Alok Kumar condemned the action as unwarranted, stressing that all individuals must be treated with courtesy and that such discipline could demoralize the force. The police headquarters is monitoring the situation and reinforcing proper protocol.
