Cumbria has launched the "Winter of Action" campaign, led by Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner David Allen, to reduce crime during colder months. Focusing on violence against women and girls, night-time offences, retail crime, dangerous driving, and anti-social behaviour, the initiative builds on a summer safety program. Cumbria Police have stopped 705 vehicles and arrested 61 drivers for impaired driving so far in December. Local councils are supporting enforcement and community outreach. Residents are urged to report crimes via 101, online, or anonymously through Crimestoppers, which may offer up to £1,000 for useful tips. Emergency calls should go to 999.
