Cornell receives $55M gift to create school addressing climate, food security, and biodiversity.
Stephen B. Ashley, a Cornell alumnus and Rochester real estate executive, has donated $55 million to Cornell University’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, establishing the Ashley School of Global Development and the Environment.
The gift, the largest in CALS history, merges the departments of Global Development and Natural Resources and the Environment to tackle global challenges like climate change, food security, and biodiversity loss.
The school will maintain current academic programs, plan future offerings with faculty input, and recruit at least 10 new faculty, including economists.
It strengthens ties with the Cornell Atkinson Center for Sustainability and advances the university’s land-grant mission.
