Citizens for Marshland Conservation won an award for helping reclassify McLennan Marsh as a provincially significant wetland, protecting it from development and boosting biodiversity.
Citizens for Marshland Conservation (CMC) has won Ontario Nature’s 2025 Steve Hounsell Greenway Award for its role in reclassifying the 28-hectare McLennan Marsh, north of Highway 401, as a provincially significant wetland in November 2024.
The designation, achieved through advocacy, restoration, and scientific research, limits development within a 120-meter radius, protecting habitat for species at risk.
The group’s efforts are credited with boosting biodiversity and climate resilience.
Vice-chair Al Quincey accepted the award in Toronto on December 10, and CMC will be featured in Ontario Nature’s quarterly magazine.
