A bridge closure on U.S. 169 near Kansas City airport due to structural issues will last indefinitely, with detours required.
Northbound U.S. 169 near Kansas City’s downtown airport is closed indefinitely due to major structural issues found in a bridge over BNSF railroad tracks, according to MoDOT.
The closure, affecting traffic from the south airport entrance to south of Briarcliff Road, includes all ramps from Richards Road and I-35.
Access to the airport remains via the Buck O’Neil Bridge at 5th and Broadway, requiring northbound travelers to exit at Harlem Road.
Southbound lanes are unaffected.
Drivers are urged to use alternate routes like MO 9 and I-29/35.
A full bridge replacement is planned for July or August 2026.
