Mayor Tommy Chandler announced the selection on December 16, 2025, highlighting Bockhaus’s over 20 years of service, leadership experience, and strong internal support.
The appointment follows a competitive process that narrowed down 14 to 18 candidates to two finalists.
Bockhaus, who will begin a probationary period, takes over a department recognized as one of Louisiana’s top fire agencies with a Class 1 rating.
The city also honored Zagone during a council meeting, presenting him with the key to the city in recognition of his 31-year career and 14 years as chief.
