Australian court approves forensic testing on suspect’s samples in October murder case.
Australian police have received court approval to conduct forensic testing on biological samples from James Bowen Hutchison, 25, in connection with the alleged October 12–13 murder of his 78-year-old housemate, Peter Hogg.
Hutchison appeared via video from prison during a December 17 hearing in Armidale Local Court.
Authorities had collected blood, hair, nail clippings, and clothing under an interim order but needed a final court decision to analyze the evidence.
Prosecutors noted bloodstains on Hutchison’s clothes and suggested the victim’s DNA might be under his nails.
Though his lawyer opposed the testing, the court granted the request, stating the results could either incriminate or exonerate him.
The case remains under investigation.
