Wisconsin Senate forms bipartisan committee to review DOJ’s operations and independence, with report due by April 2026.
The Wisconsin State Senate has created a special oversight committee to examine the Department of Justice’s operations, priorities, and external influences, with Senate President Mary Felzkowski as chair and Sen. Corey Tomczyk as vice chair.
The committee, established by Senate Majority Leader Devin LeMahieu, will assess the DOJ’s compliance with state law and independence from outside groups, including the New York University State Impact Center and Bloomberg Philanthropies, though no specific misconduct was cited.
It will include members from both parties and must deliver a final report by April 14, 2026.
Attorney General Josh Kaul criticized the move as a political distraction, urging focus on issues like children’s online safety and healthcare costs.
The committee’s first meeting date has not yet been announced.
