Volunteers with The Wilts & Berks Canal Trust are advancing restoration of a historic 70-mile waterway in Wiltshire, completing a bridge near Melksham after removing wooden supports to allow mortar pointing under its arch.
Work continues on the Pewsham Locks, the carpenter’s workshop—with a new annex funded by donations—and plans are set to begin on the main workshop area this winter.
Progress is also being made on the bottom lock and extending the canal south toward Lacock, though low water levels remain a challenge.
The trust, which offers memberships from £1.50 monthly, urges public involvement both on-site and through support roles.
