Rodney Hinton Jr., accused of killing a deputy, faces new assault charges after attacking a jail officer, but his mental illness defense remains unchanged.
Rodney Hinton Jr., 39, accused of killing Hamilton County Deputy Larry Henderson in May 2025, faces a new assault charge after allegedly striking a corrections officer at Clermont County Jail on December 13.
Prosecutors say Hinton, who has bipolar disorder and is already on trial for murder and aggravated murder with the death penalty possible, became disruptive, made threatening remarks, and attacked the officer during recreation time.
The officer was injured but is reported to be okay.
Hinton appeared in court on December 15, was granted a $50,000 cash bond, and his next hearing is set for December 23.
His defense maintains his mental illness impaired his understanding of his actions, and the new incident is not expected to impact the Hamilton County death penalty case.
